ADHD Psychology and Screening

The ADHD Foundation Australia collaborates with reputable psychologists who offer psychological support and conduct an initial, cost-effective ADHD screening process. This screening helps determine whether proceeding to a psychiatrist for a formal assessment, including the possibility of medication support, is necessary. This step can be particularly helpful due to the high costs and lengthy wait times associated with obtaining appointments with psychiatrists or paediatricians. ADHD screening tests can be completed to assist with the question, ‘Do I have ADHD?’  This is an inexpensive step that supports and assists in the discovery phase of whether ADHD is likely to be present or if symptoms may relate to another condition.

ADHD Foundation Screening Process:

  • Collaboration with Psychologists: The ADHD Foundation Australia works with esteemed psychologists to provide psychological support.
  • Initial Screening: Offers an initial, affordable ADHD screening to assess the need for a formal psychiatric evaluation and potential medication support.
  • Cost and Rebate: Screening tests are priced at $180 per session, but with a mental health care plan and Medicare rebate, currently the cost is reduced to approximately $90.00.
  • Benefits: This cost-effective step aids in determining the likelihood of ADHD or if symptoms are related to other conditions, avoiding high costs and long waits for specialist appointments.

Absolutely, love working with Grace and OnTrac! I have personally seen so many youths and kids come into the program and leave as a different individual. Programs that are run are always so meaningful, touching different relevant topics that can positively impact the kids’ everyday lives!

It is worth noting that while some psychologists are trained to conduct ADHD assessments and use a variety of tools to determine the likelihood of ADHD presence, psychologists cannot prescribe medication. Formal diagnosis and initial medication may only be prescribed by a psychiatrist or a paediatrician in Australia once the medication stabilises. In some cases, another medical practitioner may conduct ongoing management.
